Baku Police: Attempts to march down the street accompanied by violation of public order prevented

Main Police Department of Baku City has issued a statement regarding the picket held by National Council, the Department told APA.

The organization, which calls itself the National Council of Democratic Forces and the Azerbaijani Popular Front Party, appealed to the Baku City Executive Power to hold a picket with the participation of 50 people.

Reviewing the appeal, the organizers of the meeting were informed that the event will be held on October 8 from 15.00 to 16.00 on the area between Baku City Executive Power and the State Economic University administrative buildings.

On the eve of the picket, inviting to the Main Police Department of Baku relevant legislative acts were brought to the attention of the organizers and they were warned that the event should be organized in accordance with a peaceful, lawful, written notice and the conditions set for the meeting.

However, they grossly violated the requirements V part of Article 9 and part III part of Article 12 of the Law on Freedom of Assembly of the Republic of Azerbaijan, urged citizens to join the rally in support of the picket on October 8, before the time agreed to the event. Attempting to get out of the designated area and engage in an illegal street march involving more than one supporter.

As a result, traffic in that area has been paralyzed, obstacles occurred to pedestrians' free movement, brutality against the people in the surrounding area, and other illegal actions have been taken.

Attempt to street rally accompanied by the violence of public order and illegal actions of the participants of the rally have been prevented.
