Explosion occurs on boat carrying explosive in the Caspian Sea, there are dead and injured

An explosion occurred today at 1:30 pm on an expedition boat near the Gurgan settlement, carrying explosives to destination used in seismic exploration in the shallow part of the sea, SOCAR told APA-Economics.

As a result of the explosion, employee of SOCAR Mammadov Gabil Gulmammad oglu died.

Other employees Veliyev Azer Vagif oglu, Pashayev Bahruz Rafig oglu and contract ferryman Khalilov Boyukaga Mammadaga oglu, who were at the scene of the incident, were injured of varying severity and were taken to the city hospital No. 5 by ambulance.

Note that, the explosives are widely used in sea seismic exploration and are brought completely safe during transportation. Seismic exploration in the direction of Gurgan had to be done to clarify the location of new wells that will be drilled.

An appropriate commission has been formed to determine the reasons for the incident. An investigation is currently ongoing and the public will be informed regarding the outcome.
