Azerbaijan’s State Border Service successfully continues to combat drug trafficking and illegal migration.

On January 18, the border guard ship of the Coast Guard of the State Border Service detected a handmade buoy (an anchored float serving as a navigation mark) in the Caspian Sea, 7.4 miles off the shore in the direction of Astara district, the State Service’s press service told APA.

During the inspection of the buoy, 980 grams of marijuana and 1,415 grams of hashish in one package were found.

Based on the information received on January 26, two packages in one cellophane bag, which was attached to a buoy, were detected in the indicated direction, 6.6 miles of the shore. About 2.9 kilograms of opium, 550 grams of heroine and 100 grams of methamphetamine were found during the inspection.

On January 27, Azerbaijan’s border guards detained seven Uzbek citizens while attempting to cross the state border with Iran with fake visas.

The detainees – Magsuda Olimova, Shakhlo Mukimova, Nigora Saidjanova, Olimjan Baltayev, Makhigekhraon Sanginova, Shakhnozahon Akhmedova – were handed over to the State Migration Service.
