Some individuals deliberately create concern in society about the facts of poisoning in cotton fields in Azerbaijans, read a joint statement by the Prosecutor General's Office, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Health, and the Food Safety Agency.
A criminal case has been initiated over the facts of poisoning in cotton fields in Saatli, Tartar and Imishli district in June, according to the statement.
“The investigation revealed that some individuals, having misused powers, send health people without signs of poisoning to medical institutions in order to receive compensation in the future, said the statement. “The organizers of those acts are under investigation too.”
A number of officials have been sentenced to pretrial detention over the facts of poisoning in cotton fields. They face charges under articles 222.3 (Infringement of safety rules on conducting building, mountain or other activities) and 308.2 (abuse of official powers that entails heavy consequences).
Moreover, Jamal Guliyev, head of the State Phytosanitary Control Service under the Ministry of Agriculture has been removed from his duty.
