Azerbaijan detains two suspected drug smugglers

On March 17, Azerbaijan’s border guards prevented the attempted smuggling of large quantities of drugs to the country.

On March 17, around 7:50 (UTC/GMT + 4 hours), Azerbaijan’s border guards detained one person who attempted to violate the state border with Iran.

Two packages containing 25.5 kg of narcotic substances, one Samsung mobile phone and one knife were found on the detainee during the search.

The detainee was identified as Soltanali Huseynov (1991), a resident of Saatli district. He was found to have traveled to Iran through the Bilasuvar border checkpoint on March 14.

In addition, as a result of the operational and investigative measures taken, three more Azerbaijani citizens suspected of drug smuggling were identified and declared wanted.

One of them, Elman Mammadov (1973), a resident of Fuzuli district, was detained as a suspect.

Necessary operational and investigative measures are underway.
