In December 2016, Azerbaijan’s border guards detained 373 people wanted by the country’s law-enforcement bodies, the State Border Service told APA on Jan. 13.

The border guards detained 58 people in 38 cases of violation of the state border during the reporting period.

Of them, 23 are citizens of Azerbaijan, 7 – Ghana, 6 – Uzbekistan, 6 – Nigeria, 5 – Iran, 3- Bangladesh, 2 – Ukraine, and one from each country such as Kazakhstan, Russia, Turkey, Tajikistan, Cameroon and Kyrgyzstan.

The smuggling of drugs with total weight of 12 kilograms 460,4 grams was prevented in 14 cases last month.

As a result of measures taken, the smuggling goods totally worth over 919,390 manats were seized in 73 cases including 7 rifles, 42 cartridges,10 portable radio sets, 14,655 boxes of pyrotechnic device, 10,000 Azerbaijani manats, 120,000 USD, 6,027 boxes of cigarettes of various brands, 31 mobile phones, 1 boat, 10,670 medical instruments, 603 different medicines and industrial products.
