Azerbaijani Prosecutor Generalâ€™s Office, Interior Ministry comment on statement of former MNS official

The Azerbaijani Prosecutor General's Office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs have issued a joint statement.

The statement reads as follows:

"Various media outlets have recently published the text of an interview to Turan.tv by Ramin Naghiyev, an ex-investigator of the liquidated Ministry of National Security (MNS) who was removed from duty because of serious offences, who lives outside the country and has at the forefront of the anti-Azerbaijani campaign from abroad.

We state that the allegations mentioned in the interview are completely false and slanderous and are aimed at undermining the effective fight against crime put up by police, prosecuting and other law enforcement agencies. These are nothing more than fraudulent falsehoods that contradict one another.

Throughout operational and investigative measures made it clear that commander of the former special purpose police unit Rovshan Javadov, his brother Mahir Javadov, as well as Aliyusif Tahirov, Elchin Amiraslanov, Dayanat Karimov, Sultan Salimov, Sakhavat Humbatov, Shamsi Abdullayev and others formed an armed criminal group with the purpose of devising assassination plans to eliminate state and public figures who could prevent them from carrying out their plans to undermine the confidence in the Azerbaijani government, disturb the public and political stability in the country and overthrow the government. Evidence has proved that they killed Head of the Baku Higher Military Naval School Eduard Huseynov on 23 April 1993, Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Soviet Afiyaddin Jalilov on 29 September 1994, and Head of Special Department under the President Shamsi Rahimov.

Criminal actions committed by the accused have been fully proved by collected evidence, confessions, testimonies of witnesses and the victims, expert opinions and other actual circumstances of the case. According to the judicial verdicts, it was proved by consistent evidence that the accused committed the mentioned criminal actions with the aim of seizing the power by the armed group, organized and led by Rovshan and Mahir Javadov brothers by involving members of the special purpose police unit and others, undermining normal functioning of the state bodies of Azerbaijan involved in the protection of public order and physical destruction of officials, who are aware of their crimes. Most members of these groups and gangs were sentenced to life imprisonment or long-term deprivation of their liberty.

We would like to state that members of the armed criminal group who tried to organize terrorist acts in order to illegally seize power, as well as their supporters, still attempt to create guiltless and innocent images in the eyes of the public by covering the murders that they had committed. They forget that the authors of grave crimes that resulted in the killing of prominent statesmen were themselves.”
