Baku Prosecutor’s Office initiates criminal case after landslide on Bayil slope

The investigation department of the Baku City Prosecutor’s Office has initiated a criminal case (Article 308.2 - abuse of official powers) in connection with the landslide that occurred on the slope of Bayil, APA has learned.

The investigation into the case is continuing.

The information was confirmed by Eldar Sultanov, spokesman for the Prosecutor General’s Office.

There has been landslide activity since January on the slope of Bayil, 200-250 meters south-east of the TV Tower. During the final sliding process on Feb. 10, 4 houses have completely collapsed, and another house was also damaged. The cracks are 30 meters long and 12 meters deep. The Cabinet of Ministers has signed an order on the situation. According to the order, funds shall be allocated from the Reserve Fund of the 2018 State budget of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Sabayil District Executive Authority in order for the 98 relocated families to pay for the rental of temporary apartments provided to them for 11 months.

At the same time, the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the Sabail District Executive Authority are due to submit to the Cabinet of Ministers the amount of funds required to compensate the owners of four complete collapsed private houses in the area.
