A criminal case has been opened over the death of former prosecutor Garakhan Aghayev, who fell down a staircase three meters high in a restaurant in Baku on Dec. 9 this year and subsequently died in hospital on Dec. 21.

The Sabunchu district prosecutor’s office has opened a criminal case on Article 124.1 (manslaughter on imprudence).

The Baku city prosecutor’s office told APA that the investigation into the former prosecutor’s death is ongoing and a forensic-medical team is working to determine the cause of death.

Investigators are working to determine whether the death was a murder or not as the deceased’s family blame his death on Nizami Taghiyev, a Khizi district police chief.
