Baku’s Sabunchu district court on Wednesday resumed the trial in the criminal case involving Major General Akif Chovdarov, former head of the main energy and transport security directorate under the liquidated Ministry of National Security (MNS) of Azerbaijan, and other people arrested alongside him.

Former police officer Neman Karimov, who is recognized as a victim in the criminal case, testified at the trial presided over by Baku Military Court chairman Habib Hasanov.

As Karimov said in his testimony during preliminary investigation that he was not beaten, he claimed otherwise at today’s trial. “During the investigation, I said I hadn’t beaten in the car. However, I was beaten in the ministry,” Karimov said.

Karimov also said that his uncle met with Chovdarov and gave him money.

Commenting on Karimov’s testimony, Chovdarov said he was acquainted with his uncle. He said they met in connection with a problem but they didn’t talk about money.

Later, Karimov’s cousin Elvin Movsumov, who was also arrested, gave testimony, confirming the testimony he had given during the investigation.

The trial will be continued on January 23.
