Baku. Shahriyar Alizade – APA. The Supreme Court of Azerbaijan has cancelled the decision on the arrest of Matlab Mustafayev, an employee of the State Committee on Property Issues, who was detained by employees of the liquidated National Security Ministry on charges of illegal storage of firearms, lawyer Adem Mammadov wrote on social networks.

On 24 April 2015, the court sentenced Matlab Mustafayev to two years in prison on charges of illegal storage of firearms.

Then, the Baku Court of Appeal had upheld an appeal filed by the defendant against the court decision.

“The Decision of the Baku Court of Appeal on Matlab Mustafayev should be cancelled and the criminal case should be terminated on exculpatory basis,” said the lawyer.

Mustafayev, an employee of the State Committee on Property Issues, was detained by employees of the National Security Ministry in Sept. 2014. A few days after his brother’s arrest, Colonel Malik Mustafayev, who served in the National Security Ministry for 31 years, committed suicide by hanging himself. Elchin Guliyev, former head of the ministry’s antiterrorist center, together with his deputy Ilgar Aliyev, who committed suicide in a prison, is said to have been trying to make Matlab Mustafayev testify against others.
