Flights between Cairo and Moscow are due to resume in February by three flights a week, an Egypt Air official said Tuesday, APA reports quoting Anadolu agency.

The official, who preferred not to be named due to restriction on speaking to the media, said the three weekly flights would take off from Cairo International Airport after the approval of the Russian authorities.

The Egyptian move came as part of a joint agreement with Moscow last December on cooperation in airports' security.

The flights between the two countries will resume after a two-year hiatus.

Egypt Air is currently finalizing arrangements to resume flights to Russia and to re-open the company's Moscow office, according to the same source.

Moscow stopped flights to Cairo after a Russian plane crashed shortly after taking off over the Sinai peninsula in October 2015, killing all 224 people on board.
