At least three Egyptian soldiers were killed and another four injured Friday when their vehicle struck a roadside bomb in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula, a security source said, APA reports quoting Anadolu Agency.

The source, who spoke to Anadolu Agency anonymously due to restrictions on speaking to media, said the blast had left three soldiers dead and another four seriously injured.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the incident, while the Egyptian government has yet to officially comment.

The northern Sinai Peninsula has remained the epicenter of a deadly insurgency since Mohamed Morsi -- Egypt’s first freely elected president -- was ousted in a 2013 military coup.

Since then, the "Welayet Sinai" ("Province of Sinai") group -- said to have links to the Daesh terrorist organization -- has claimed responsibility for a spate of attacks on Egyptian security forces deployed in the region.
