South Sudan shuts border with DR Congo over Ebola fears

South Sudan, the world’s youngest nation blighted by over three years of brutal civil war, closed its southern border with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on Monday as precaution against the spread of Ebola, local official said, AAP reports quoting Anadolu Agency.

Lino Utu, the deputy governor of South Sudan’s state of Tombura, which borders the Ebola-hit DRC said the decision to close the two borders constituted a preventive measures taken following a report of two suspected Ebola deaths on May 11 and 29.

Democratic Republic of Congo officials this month confirmed an outbreak of Ebola in the northern province of Bas Uele in Likati village.

So far, three Ebola-related deaths and 29 suspected cases have been reported, according to the WHO.
