The bodies of Russian citizens with press cards have been found on a road 23 kilometers (14 miles) from the central town of Sibut, AFP news agency reported citing sources close to the investigation, APA reports quoting Sputnik.
According to the AFP news agency's source, the Russians "were killed by unidentified armed men." The bodies have been transferred to the UN base in Sibut, as AFP reported, citing its sources.
Several media sources speculated that two of the three victims were Izvestia employees. However, the media outlet denied that any of its staff members have been on the territory of the republic.
One of the killed was journalist Orkhan Dzhemal, Editor-in-Chief of Ekho Moskvy (Echo of Moscow) radio station Alexei Venediktov told TASS on Tuesday.
Dzhemal stayed in the Central African Republic together with cameraman Kirill Radchenko and producer Alexander Rastorguyev, he said.
