"The price of grain is quite high this year," said Samir Sharifov, Finance Minister of Azerbaijan at the joint meeting of the Committee for Law Policy and State-Building, the Defense, Security and Counter-Corruption Committee, the Human Rights Committee, the Committee on Foreign and Interparliamentary Relations, APA reports

He stressed that it wasn’t felt in Azerbaijan at all: “These problems were on the agenda during the war. Although prices hiked, the state subsidized grain prices. Decisions were made regarding the increase of social benefits and wages in 2021. Principally it would be quite risky to go against the grain market. Relevant orders were given by the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to reduce the dependence of our country on grain import. These works have been started. Reserves will be made in the current year accordingly, as well. The corresponding institution has already been established. We will form our grain reserves in the State Reserves Agency of Azerbaijan. At the same time, works are underway in the direction of forming other reserves. The formation of reserves should be aligned with the policy of replenishment of reserves. Especially, there is the shelf life of food. State Reserves Agency should form new reserves from the incomes coming from the sales of the products”.
