“We use NATO capabilities in personnel training,” Azerbaijan’s Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov told AzTV, ONA reports.

He said Azerbaijani officers take part in various training and courses of NATO.

Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov also spoke about his participation in the UN Peacekeeping Ministerial in New York.

“Azerbaijan is a peace-loving state. However, on the other hand, the Azerbaijani Army’s readiness is at the highest level and the whole world sees this. The UN is taking peacekeeping measures throughout the world and it needs military forces. The UN appeals to those armies that are strong. The UN has appealed to Azerbaijan as well. Azerbaijani servicemen have joined these peacekeeping operations as there was a political decision,” said Minister Hasanov.

Z. Hasanov noted that he had meetings with the UN secretary general and his deputy.

“We had an extensive discussion with the UN secretary general’s deputy. They once again appealed to us requesting military forces for peacekeeping operations. This is, of course, a political issue. I will analyze all of this and present a report to the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, President Ilham Aliyev. The decision will be made by the Supreme Commander-in-Chief,” he said.

“The fact that today the UN appeals to us is an achievement. Azerbaijan is on the right path and we will continue contributing to the peace all over the world in the future,” added Z. Hasanov.
