A 5.9-magnitude earthquake was reported 29 kilometres west of Grande Cache, Canada with the epicentre lying at a depth of nine kilometres, APA reports citing Sputnik.

The seismic activity was first reported by the US Geological Survey, which later deleted the statement from its website.

There are an estimated 1,320 moderate earthquakes in the world each year. Tremors with a magnitude of more than 5.0 can cause damage to buildings and other structures.
