According to the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the quake hit 48 kilometres (almost 30 miles) southeast of the Baracoa region with the epicentre located at a depth of 2 kilometres, APA reports citing Sputnik.
At the moment, there have been no reports of any damage or injuries inflicted by the tremor.
The news comes as the country is suffering from a harsh drought, with temperature breaking records of 39.7 C (103.4 F), so the local authorities have to supply water to people in several regions.
