Pfizer Canada and BioNTech SE revealed on Wednesday that they reached an agreement with the government of Canada on providing the country with 100 million doses of their COVID-19 vaccine candidate by the end of 2020, APA reports citing Teletrader.

The two companies announced their mRNA-based vaccine candidate, dubbed BNT162, is currently in the second stage of the clinical trial and revealed that they plan to seek approval from Health Canada in October. If the vaccine proves efficient, the pharmaceutical firms aim to supply Canada with additional 1.3 billion doses in 2021.

"We continue to be committed to partnering with the Canadian government to help fight this pandemic and are pleased with their collaborative approach to addressing a national COVID-19 immunization strategy with public health officials," Pfizer Canada President Cole Pinnow said in a statement.
