The US authorities believe that Russia and China are trying to change the existing world order in their own interests, and Washington intends to oppose this, said Antony Blinken, the U.S Secretary of State in an interview with ThaiPBS, the transcript of which was published by the press service of the US Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday, APA reports citing 24 happenings.

According to him, by conducting a special military operation in Ukraine, “Russia poses a challenge” to the existing world order.

“If Russia is allowed to do what it does, it will mean that we are returning to a world where whoever is stronger is right, where big countries can bully small ones,” Blinken argued.

“It’s the opposite of rule-based order,” he added.

“We see China challenging in a different way order, acting more and more aggressively in the region and tightening repression at home <...>“, – said the secretary of state.

“And I think that China wants to have an international order, but different . While we are trying to defend and maintain an order that is liberal in terms of its values, China can pursue a more illiberal order that reflects other values. And the question is, in what order do people want to live,” Blinken believes.

He also noted that “the relationship with China is one of the most important” for the US and other countries, although they are “one of the most difficult”. According to the State Secretary, “there are many potential areas of cooperation with China”. Among them, he named the climate, the fight against the spread of drugs and food shortages.

“So we hope that even as we compete with China and have deep differences, we will be able to find opportunities for cooperation,” Blinken added.

“I think that countries that believe in the value order and support it, can, if necessary, speak out in its favor and protect it,” the chief of American diplomacy concluded.
