Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced he is running for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024 ahead of a Twitter Spaces event with Twitter CEO Elon Musk, APA reports citing Teletrader.
DeSantis was expected to join the live audio stream with Musk and GOP donor David Sacks but the event ran into technical difficulties, with Sacks commenting the servers are not able to handle the number of users tuning in.
DeSantis instead published an announcement video on his Twitter profile. "I’m running for president to lead our Great American Comeback," he said. "We need the courage to lead and the strength to win." The 44-year-old served as a House representative from 2013 to 2018, becoming governor in 2019. He is seen as former President Donald Trump's biggest rival for the Republican nomination.
