United States Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said on Tuesday Ukraine will begin receiving payments in grants for "direct budget support" from a $4.5 billion-worth financial package in the coming weeks, APA reports citing Teletrader.

The funds, according to the secretary's statement, are meant to support Ukraine's essential government services, which include paying salaries to government officials, teachers, and hospital staff, as well as bolstering the county's overall economic stability.

"These disbursements will bring total US direct budget support to Ukraine to $13 billion, all in grants," Yellen underscored, urging "other donors" to increase their financial assistance to Kyiv. "The Treasury Department and US government will continue to use all of our tools, including our historic sanctions coalition, to weaken Putin's war machine," the secretary added.
