The Biden administration is quietly pressing the Taiwanese government to order American-made weapons that would help its small military repel a seaborne invasion by China rather than weapons designed for conventional set-piece warfare, current and former U.S. and Taiwanese officials say, APA reports citing New York Times.

According to the report, the conflict in Ukraine has convinced Washington that China will intervene in Taiwan in the coming years.

In this regard, the United States wants to strengthen the island's defense capabilities.

According to The New York Times, Taiwan has refused to buy, in particular, MH-60R Seahawk anti-submarine helicopters.

Meanwhile, the head of the island's military department, Chiu Kuo-cheng, said Taiwan was inclined to abandon plans to buy 12 such aircraft from the United States. This is due to the high price.
