The Peruvian government prolonged the state of emergency for 60 days as protests sparked by the dismissal of President Pedro Castillo continue, APA reports citing Teletrader.

The measure will be extended for 60 days and expanded to include seven additional regions in the south of the country.

The state of emergency grants additional powers to the military, suspends the freedom of assembly, and establishes a curfew in certain places. The extension will not apply to Lima, the country's capital, or the city of Callao, where Peru's largest airport is located.
