Electric carmaker Tesla Inc. was removed on Wednesday from the S&P 500 ESG Index by S&P Dow Jones Indices, APA reports citing Teletrader.
Among the reasons for the decision were pointed issues such as racial discrimination, lawsuits against the company, and its handling of a government investigation following accidents involving its autopilot vehicles.
"Tesla was ineligible for index inclusion due to its low S&P DJI ESG Score, three of which fell in the bottom 25% of its global GICS® industry group peers," said Maggie Dorn, Senior Director and Head of ESG Indices, North America at S&P Dow Jones Indices.
