United States Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific affairs Daniel Kritenbrink met with South Korean top officials on Friday, where they discussed the US Inflation Reduction Bill, which reduces taxes solely for electric vehicles built in North America, APA reports citing Teletrader.

South Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin warned that this type of policy could potentially break the bilateral free trade agreement, and reminded his American colleague of South Korean investments in trade, and of the fact the country has joined the US-led agreement on semiconductors.

"[Park] called for [the US] to promptly make efforts to come up with possible solutions, including exemption or postponement of such discriminatory acts," the ministry said.

The officials briefly touched on the North Korean nuclear threat, as well as on the South Korean plan to help the North's economy.
