Peruvian Vice President Dina Boluarte was sworn in as the country's new leader on Wednesday following the decision of congress to remove President Pedro Castillo, APA reports citing Teletrader.

Castillo, who was facing impeachment, dissolved the legislative body and declared a "state of emergency" earlier today, but the vote took place nonetheless, with 101 representatives deciding in favor compared to 6 against.

Boluarte previously deemed Castillo's decision a "coup d'etat," accusing him of "aggravating the political and institutional crisis" in the country.
