White House COVID-19 response team will be disbanded in May, APA reports citing the Washington Post.
The Biden administration previously said it plans to end the pandemic-related public health emergency in the same month.
The COVID-19 team has been shrinking as the pandemic wound down, with prominent experts including Anthony Fauci and Deborah Birx leaving. According to people familiar with the matter, current national coordinator Ashish Jha is likely to leave the administration once the team is shut down. "COVID is not over, fighting it remains an administration priority, and transitioning out of the emergency phase is the natural evolution of the COVID response," one source said.
