Arif Malikov: I do not understand why Gara Garayevâ€™s work is not staged in Opera and Ballet Theater

The composer said he wants the youth to chair the composersâ€™ union.
â€œWhat can a union holding a congress once in 17 years do for the youth? There was a note shop in Azerbaijan during the soviet period. The shop was sold and the composers remained without a place to rest. They disrespect not Arif Malikov, but Uzeyir Hajibayov, Gara Garayev, Fikret Amirov, Niyazi Jovdet Hajiyev and Jahangir Jahangirov,â€ he said.
Arif Malikov also expressed dissatisfaction with Azerbaijan State Opera and Ballet Theater.
â€œI do not understand why Gara Garayevâ€™s â€œIldirimli Yollarlaâ€ (Path of thunder), Arif Malikovâ€™s â€œMehebbet efsanesiâ€ (Legend of love) are not staged at the theater. There are a lot of talented composers in Azerbaijan and the congress has not been held for 17 years. There should be symphonic, chamber, opera, ballet and music sections in the composerâ€™s union. All related problems should first be solved in the composersâ€™ union,â€ he said.
The composer underlined that he was dissatisfied with the congress, as materials of four congresses were focused in one congress. Arif Malikov spoke about Uzeyir Hajibayovâ€™s role in Azerbaijani music.
â€œMashadi Ibad should not be staged in Opera and Ballet Theater. Mashadi Ibad is a musical comedy and Arshin Mal Alan is an operetta. Works by contemporary composers have never been staged in Azerbaijan State Opera and Ballet Theater. Azerbaijani people know nothing about modern music. They have the right to be aware of ongoing processes in the world,â€ the composer said. /APA/
