China welcomes the prolongation of the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START) between Russia and the US, warning the US against slander and accusations addressed to China due to its "unwillingness to disarm itself," Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Wang Wenbin said on Friday, APA reports citing TASS.

"China supports the efforts of Russia and the United States, who prolonged New START for five years. This will help ensure strategic stability on the international stage and facilitate peace and security," he said during a regular briefing. The diplomat stressed that such steps of Moscow and Washington correspond to the aspirations of the international community.

According to him, Beijing’s nuclear arsenal "is incomparably smaller than in Russia or in the US." "We are categorically against the American side making slanderous statements and accusations against China, which firmly adheres to a defense strategy," the spokesman concluded.
