In his first meeting with an Iranian official after taking office, the new Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) held talks with Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Abbas Araqchi in Austria, APA reports citing Tasnim.

Araqchi and the new head of the UN’s atomic watchdog, Rafael Mariano Grossi, met in Vienna on Friday after a session of the Joint Commission of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Speaking to reporters, Araqchi said his talks with Grossi were fruitful. “It was a good meeting for the beginning.”

“The agency’s new director general emphasized that the previous status of cooperation between the international institution (IAEA) and Iran should be maintained. In the meeting, a series of issues and solutions were discussed,” Araqchi added.
