The new school year started across the Islamic Republic of Iran on Saturday 5 September, APA reports citing IRNA.

The bell for the beginning of the new school year in Iran was rung today (Saturday) in a video conference ceremony attended by the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and the country's Minister of Education.

The new school year in Iran began two weeks earlier than in previous years to make up for last year's education deficit which occurred because of the outbreak of the coronavirus in the country.

More than 15 million Iranian students went to classes in 110,000 schools with the ringing of the new year school bell, in full compliance with health protocols.
