Security operatives aboard an Iranian passenger plane on a domestic flight foiled a hijacking attempt on Saturday evening and arrested a man who had threatened to explode two home-made bombs tied under his clothes which he had smeared with alcohol, APA reports citing IRNA.

The incident happened 20 minutes after take-off when the plane, a Russian-made Tupolev-145 with 138 people on board, was flying from the southeastern city of Kerman to capital Tehran at a height of 30,000 feet. The hijacker, 45, threatened to set himself ablaze with a lighter in his hand and blow up the plane if prevented from going into the cockpit. He was subdued by the plain-clothes security operatives of the Islamic Revolution°s Guards Corps before entering the cockpit.
