In an emailed memo, the airline’s CEO Akbar Al Baker says the number would be "substantial" and will include members of its cabin crew. Al Baker added that "the global outlook for our industry looks grim and many airlines are closing or significantly reducing operations."

COVID-19 pandemic affected also Emirates Airlines who also stated that it plans to lay off a limited number of employees "as a result of current reality." The company already in March asked pilots and cabin crew to take unpaid leave.
