The Japanese government is likely to extend the state of emergency in Tokyo, introduced to combat the spread of COVID-19, until March 21, APA reports citing Teletrader.

Due to the situation regarding the pandemic, the government aims to get the infection rate down, in order to meet the summer Olympics with the containment measures as relaxed as possible, the report added.

Mainichi Shimbun reported earlier during the day that the Tokyo Olympics isn't likely to allow spectators from overseas.
