Fourteen people were injured Thursday as an escalator in a subway station malfunctioned, according to Yonhap news agency, APA reports.
One of the upward escalators at the subway station in Seongnam, some 20 km south of Seoul, ran in reverse around 8:20 a.m. local time (2320 GMT Wednesday).
Three people were seriously injured in their back and legs and taken to a nearby hospital. Eleven others were under treatment for relatively minor injuries.
The fire authorities and the police were investigating the exact cause of the accident based on eyewitness accounts.
