At least 38 people have been killed in today's attack in northern Thailand, police have confirmed at a news conference, APA reports citing BBC.

The gunman who killed 38 people in today's attack in northern Thailand legally purchased the firearm he carried out his attack with, police say.

He also mainly used a knife during the rampage that has left 22 children dead, officers said.

At least 36 people, including children, have been killed in a mass shooting at a children's day-care centre in Nongbua Lamphu town, a northeastern province of Thailand, a police spokesperson said on Thursday, APA reports citing India Today.

The gunman shot himself soon after.

Police said the victims included 24 children as well as adults.

"There are at least 34 dead but details were still coming in," Deputy Police spokesperson Archon Kraitong told Reuters.

At least 31 people are dead, including children, after a man armed with a gun and knife stormed a nursery in northeast Thailand on Thursday, police said, APA reports citing Anadolu Agency.

Achayon Kraithong, the spokesman for the national police, told AFP the incident happened in Nong Bua Lam Phu province, and the attacker was still at large.
