Armenian Finance Minister Tigran Khachatryan and Iranian Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance Ehsan Khandouzi discussed on Tuesday in Tehran prospects for boosting Armenian-Iranian economic cooperation, the Armenian Finance Ministry reported, APA reports citing Arka News Agency.

It said both ministers emphasized the importance of a number of economic priorities between the neighboring countries, particularly increasing the annual turnover up to $3bn and the volume of trade up to 5m tons, as well as simplifying and developing financial, banking, trade and customs relations.

Khachatryan was said to stress the importance of constantly developing and strengthening the decades-long cooperation between Armenia and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Touching upon the 25% growth of the commodity exchange registered between the two countries so far, the minister stressed that by the end of this year this index will exceed 40%.

Khandouzi, in turn, noted that the Iranian government is following the economic policies of neighboring countries very seriously, putting an emphasis on the Caucasus region.

"I hope that the goal to bring the annual volume of mutual trade between Armenia and Iran to $3 billion, which was discussed during the meeting between Iranian President and Armenian Prime Minister, will be achieved this year," Khanduzi said.
