Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang underscored on Monday that it is "imperative" to swiftly stabilize relations between Beijing and Washington and avoid a "downward spiral" of bilateral ties, APA reports citing Teletrader.

The foreign minister also urged the United States to "return to rationality" and "correctly handle" the Taiwan issue.

"The US must respect China's bottom line and red line, stop harming China's sovereignty, security and development interests," the foreign minister stressed during the meeting with US Ambassador to China Nicholas Burns. "China will adhere to the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation proposed by President Xi Jinping in handling Sino-US relations," the foreign minister stated.

The American diplomat previously revealed that Washington is "ready" to to talk with China.
