Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao is expected to visit the European Union next month, where he will hold talks with senior officials from Brussels and Berlin, according to a report published by the South China Morning Post, APA reports citing Teletrader.

Per sources familiar with Wang's plans, the minister will make an official visit to stabilize China's trade relations with the EU, which have deteriorated amid repeated calls from western countries to reduce dependence on Chinese commodities in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis and Russia's war in Ukraine.

The report comes after European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen criticized Beijing over its restrained policy versus Russia's invasion of Ukraine, saying she will travel to China soon, joined by French President Emmanual Macron in an attempt to "balance" the EU-China relations.
