The government in Japan is eying Bank of Japan (BoJ) Deputy Governor Masayoshi Amamiya as a potential replacement for current governor Haruhiko Kuroda, Nikkei Asia reported, citing people familiar with the matter, APA reports citing Teletrader.

Amamiya was reportedly approached about the issue, although it remains unknown whether he will accept to take the post.

The nation's central bank is set to pick Kuroda's successor based on the candidate's aptitudes at the end of Kuroda's term, on April 8, according to Prime Minister Fumio Kishida's previous statements.
