Japan has imposed stricter visa rules for foreign researchers to prevent confidential information from being obtained by China, Nikkei Asia said on Saturday, APA reports.
To obtain a Japanese visa, students and researchers must have a certificate of eligibility given by their schools or places of work. They will also need to provide a reason for traveling to Japan and their intended residence while in the country.
The move comes amid rising tensions between the United States and China, following US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan. On her Asia-Pacific tour, Pelosi also visited Japan.
