A phone conversation was held between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Chairman of the Political Bureau of Hamas Ismail Khaniya, APA’s Moscow correspondent reports citing Russian MFA.
During the phone talk held by the initiative of Palestinian side, the situation that emerged in Palestine- Israel conflict zone was discussed, the danger of continuation of the tension around Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem was stressed. At the same time, inadmissibility of violating the status quo in the holy places, the need to prevent further deterioration of the situation and the transformation of local conflicts into large-scale military confrontations were stated.
Lavrov confirmed that Russia will continue its active efforts in the interests of establishing the Palestinian-Israeli negotiation process on the basis of universally recognized international law. Its final purpose is to establish independent Palestine state living in peace and security condition with Israel, within the borders in 1967.
The political platform of the Palestine Liberation Organization, as well as the task of restoring unity within Palestine as soon as possible through Russian diplomacy, has been thoroughly considered.
