Four commuters were killed and four others injured as a mini-bus plunged into river in the central Daykundi province on Thursday, provincial government official Mawlawi Khalil said Friday, APA reports citing Xinhua.

A mini-bus with eight commuters was heading to Gizab district on Thursday evening but slipped in the icy road and plunged into Helmand river, leaving four dead and four others injured, the official said.

Four women lost their lives in the accident. One body has been recovered and efforts to find the remaining three have been going on, the official added. Khalil also noted that four others including two men and two children have been rescued.

The conditions of congested and dusty roads in the war-torn Afghanistan usually turn from bad to worse in winter as many become icy and slippy due to snowfall.

In a similar accident in the northern Kunduz province, a passenger bus diverted from highway, injuring eight passengers and leaving some in critical conditions on Thursday, Mohammad Naem Mangal, doctor in the civil hospital of Kunduz city, the capital of Kunduz province, said on Friday.
