The number of people who tested positive for the coronavirus in South Korea over the past day landed at 37,360, marking the highest daily figure reported by the country since May 11, APA reports citing Teletrader.

With the newly recorded infections included, the country's total adds up to 18,561,861, according to the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC).

Health authorities have additionally noted that the nation seems to have entered "a new wave of COVID-19 driven by the fast spread of the highly contagious mutation of the omicron strains," according to Yonhap.
