Tokyo's customer price index (CPI) fell by 0.1 percentage points compared to the previous month to land at 2.4% year-over-year in May, according to a Friday report by the country's Statistics Bureau, APA reports citing Tele Trader.

Furthermore, Tokyo's CPI excluding fresh food came at 1.9% in May, while its CPI excluding fresh food and energy rose by 0.1 percentage points to reach 0.9% for the same period.

On Wednesday, the Bank of Japan governor Haruhiko Kuroda stated that supply and demand shocks are not "as severe" in Japan as they have been in the United States.
