Azerbaijani MoD: Extension of conscription term for active military service until May 31 will not effect combat ability of Army"

Professional Army has been formed thanks to the reforms, conducted in the Armed Forces under leadership of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev", Ministry of Defense told APA.

The ministry’s statement says currently the compulsory active military service personnel accounts for very little percentage of the army’s total military personnel: “All positions which ensure combat support are occupied by officers, sergeants and indefinite active duty military servicemen. The extension of period of conscription into military service until May 31 by the Azerbaijani Parliament will not exert any influence on combat ability of the army”.
