SIPRI: Azerbaijan has built up military capabilities in recent years

Azerbaijan has been building up its military capabilities through major arms imports in recent years, reads the new report by Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), APA reports.

The report reads that in 2016-2020, Azerbaijan imported 69% of major weapons from Israel, 17% from Russia. The weapons purchased by Azerbaijan from Israel were mainly drones, ballistic missiles, and the weapons purchased from Russia were artillery and armored vehicles.

In 2016–20 Russia accounted for 94 per cent of Armenian arms imports.

Armenia has mainly purchased fighter jets, artillery, ballistic missiles, and air defense systems from Russia.

In 2016-2020, Azerbaijan imported 2.5 percent more weapons than Armenia.
