“Russia is not interested in escalation of tension in the Southern Caucasus and its actions are not directed against the third countries in the region”, minister of Defense of Russia Sergey Shoygu voiced this statement at the meeting with minister of Defense of Azerbaijan Zakir Hasanov in Baku, APA reports citing TASS.

“We are aware of the incidents occurred on the border with Armenia and we have been anxiously tracking the events. And we are also aware of the concerns regarding our flights to our own bases. I would like to say directly that all our actions have never and is not currently directed against our neighbor and partner Azerbaijan. Russia is not interested in escalation of tension in the Southern Caucasus”, S. Shoygu stressed.

According to the minister, the construction of social facilities is being implemented in the Russian military base in Armenia.

“Certain activeness is connected with this. And the second issue is the conscription campaign. It was necessary to bring somebody back home and to send somebody to military service. I reiterate once again that our actions and steps have never been directed against Azerbaijan, and this is also the same today”, S. Shoygu noted.
